“I’ve been a lifelong football fan but the reality of being a woman in football hasn’t always lived up to the love I have for the game.
I’ve been harassed in crowds, followed through stadiums, and heard more inappropriate remarks than I can count. It’s not always one big incident it’s the steady buildup of uncomfortable moments that wear you down. I’ve huddled in bathrooms with other women, not because we knew each other, but because it felt safer than facing certain parts of the stadium alone.
What’s hardest is that none of this feels surprising anymore. So many of us have come to accept these experiences as “just part of it.” But they shouldn’t be. That’s why I created Safe Stands to challenge that sense of quiet acceptance. To give women a way to look out for each other, to build community, and to feel confident being exactly where we belong: in the stands, supporting our teams without fear. Safe Stands is about more than safety. It’s about solidarity. It’s about reclaiming space that tries to exclude us.”
